DOPE: "Jiya Re" from "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" (2012)

I'm going to preface this post with a warning.... this is another film that I will most likely share more songs from... because the soundtrack is that dope! I've talked a bit about Jab Tak Hai Jaan on my Hindi film blog, Black Girl Digs Bollywood, especially how I am "Team Akira" all the way when it comes to the two heroines in the movie. And for those of you on that team, you will no doubt enjoy our anthem, "Jiya Re"... The lyrics and English translation are courtesy of Yash Raj Films.

Chali Re Chali Re
Away I go
Junoon ko liye
Carried on wings of passion
Qatra Qatra
Drinking
Lamhon ko piye
Droplets of time

Pinjre se uda dil ka skikra
My heart has flown from its cage
Khudi se maine ishq kiya re
Falling in love with myself

Jiya re Jiya re
Jiya Jiya re Jiya re
Jiya Jiya re Jiya re Jiya
Embracing life with open arms
Oooh
Jiya re Jiya re
Jiya Jiya re Jiya re
Jiya Jiya re Jiya re Jiya
Embracing life with open arms
Oooh

Chali Re Chali Re
Away I go
Junoon ko liye
Carried on wings of passion
Pinjre se uda dil ka shikra
My heart has flown from its cage
Khudi se maine ishq kiya re
Falling in love with myself

Jiya re Jiya re
Jiya Jiya re Jiya re
Jiya Jiya re Jiya re Jiya
Embracing life with open arms
Oooh
Jiya re Jiya re
Jiya Jiya re Jiya re
Jiya Jiya re Jiya re Jiya
Embracing life with open arms
Oooh

Make the way for Akira...
Pump it up, move aside she is here-a
Hey get up everybody wanna be her
Wanna see her, she's Akira

Chhote Chhote lamhon Ko
Clasping the moment in your fingertips
Title jaise pakdo to
Like a butterfly.
Haathon mein rang reh jaata hai
As it takes wing
Pankhn se jab chhodo to
it leaves traces of color

Waqt chalta hai
The moment moves on
Waqt ka magar rang utarta hai
Leaving its color behind
Akira
Udte Udte Phir ek lamha
I clasp another moment
Maine pakad liya re
As it takes flight

Jiya re Jiya re
Jiya Jiya re Jiya re
Jiya Jiya re Jiya re Jiya
Embracing life with open arms
Oooh
Jiya re Jiya re
Jiya Jiya re Jiya re
Jiya Jiya re Jiya re Jiya
Embracing life with open arms
Oooh

Chali Re Chali Re
Away I go
Junoon ko liye
Carried on wings of passion
Pinjre se uda dil ka shikra
My heart has flown from its cage
Khudi se maine ishq kiya re
Falling in love with myself

Jiya re Jiya re
Jiya Jiya re Jiya re
Jiya Jiya re Jiya re Jiya
Embracing life with open arms
Oooh
Jiya re Jiya re
Jiya Jiya re Jiya re
Jiya Jiya re Jiya re Jiya
Embracing life with open arms
Oooh

This unique Pink Duffle Bag ($36.00, Global Goods Partners) is made from 100% recycled rice bags in Cambodia. What's best, this product was ethically sourced and fairly traded. So I will know every time I go to the gym that this purchased helped someone receive a fair wage and help their family.

Music Therapy with Miss Moon

Optimist: Day-dreamer more elegantly spelled.
~ Mark Twain

" What seems to us as bitter trials are often blessings in disguise."
~ Oscar Wilde

" The optimism of a healthy mind is indefatigable."
~ Margery Allingham

" March on. Do not tarry. To go forward is to move toward perfection. March on, and fear not the thorns, or the sharp stones on life's path."
~ Khalil Gibran

Confession time: I haven' been faring too well in the optimism department as of late. I've been going through the motions with my daily gratitude list, but haven't been putting the love and happiness into it. So it should come as no surprise to me that I've allowed pessimism and negativity to creep into my daily life. No more, though.

I'm learning that a bright and optimistic spirited can change upon circumstance and from the neglect of it. Instead of devoting energy to wringing my hands and dwelling on the "could-a would-a should-as", I will use it to nurture gratitude for my life and acknowledging the optimistic spirit within me.

Days after coming to this conclusion, I received a significant sign from the Universe that I was headed in the right direction. I found a Hamsa, or a Hand of Fatima on my way to work, a symbol I've always loved. I love and am so grateful for the moments in my life when I receive instant confirmation that I've found the better way I've been seeking.

And to celebrate this discovery, I share with all of you today's song choice for Music Therapy with Miss Moon. I hope you all will enjoy Ben Harper's "Better Way" and that it will usher forth a better way for all of us.

i'm a living sunset
lightning in my bones
push me to the edge
but my will is stone

fools will be fools
and wise will be wise
but i will look this world
straight in the eyes

what good is a man
who won't take a stand
what good is a cynic
with no better plan

(hope these words feel pleasant
as they rest upon your ears)

reality is sharp
it cuts at me like a knife
everyone i know
is in the fight of their life

take your face out of your hands
and clear your eyes
you have a right to your dreams
and don't be denied

i believe in a better way

DOPE: "Maar Dala" from "Devdas" (2002)

I'm back with another beautiful song from an equally beautiful film. Madhuri Dixit needs all of the awards for this performance... the longing, the joy, and the love in her eyes is spectacular! With the lyrics with English translation from BollyWhat.com, I hope you all will enjoy "Maar Dala".

yeh kiskii hai aahaT
Whose footstep is this?
yeh kiska hai saaya
Whose shadow is this?
hu'ii dil me.n dastak
There was a knock at my heart;
yahaa.n kaun aaya
who entered here?

ham par yeh kisne hara ra.ng Daala...
Who spread this vibrant color over me?
ham par yeh kisne hara ra.ng Daala...
Who spread this vibrant color over me?
khushii ne hamaarii hame.n maar Daala
My happiness killed me
maar Daala...
It killed me...
maar Daala...
It killed me...

ham par yeh kisne hara ra.ng Daala
Who spread this vibrant color over me?
khushii ne hamaarii hame.n maar Daala
My happiness killed me
hame.n maar Daala...
it killed me...
allah maar Daala...
God, it killed me...
allah maar Daala...
God, it killed me...
allah maar Daala...
God, it killed me...

na chaa.nd hathelii par sajaaya
The moon did not decorate my palm,
na taaro.n se ko'ii bhii rishta banaaya
nor did I contract any relationship with the stars.
na rab se bhii ko'ii shikaayat kii...
Nor did I make any complaint of God...
na rab se bhii ko'ii shikaayat kii...
Nor did I make any complaint of God...
har gam ko ham ne chupaaya
I hid every sorrow;
har sitam ko ha.nske uTHaaya
with laughter I bore each injustice.
kaa.nTo.n ko bhii gale se lagaaya
I even embraced thorns,
aur phuulo.n se zakhm khaaya
and was wounded by flowers.

haa.n magar du'aa me.n jab yeh haath uTHaaya...
Yes, but when I raised my hands in prayer,
haa.n magar du'aa me.n jab yeh haath uTHaaya...
Yes, but when I raised my hands in prayer,
khuda se du'aa me.n tumhe.n maa.ng Daala
I begged God for you!
maa.ng Daala allah...
God, I begged for you!

ham par yeh kisne hara ra.ng Daala
Who spread this vibrant color over me?
khushii ne hamaarii hame.n maar Daala
My happiness killed me
hame.n maar Daala...
it killed me...
allah maar Daala...
God, it killed me...
maar Daala...
killed me...
maar Daala...
killed me...
maar Daala...
killed me...
maar Daala...
killed me...

yeh kiskii hai aahaT
Whose footstep is this?
yeh kiska hai saaya
Whose shadow is this?
hu'ii dil me.n dastak
There was a knock at my heart;
yahaa.n kaun aaya
who entered here?

Music Therapy with Miss Moon

The person who sends out positive thoughts activates the world around him positively and draws back to himself positive results."
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

" Affectation is a greater enemy to the face than smallpox."
~ English Proverb

" The last of the human freedoms is to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances."
~ William James

For years, as a joke I referred to Fiona Apple's "Fast As You Can" as my "relationship anthem". I even went as far as to exaggerate that when I meet my next prospective partner, I would play the song for him... so he would know what he was getting into right from the start.

Even though I said it in jest, I think a part of me really thought that the song was an accurate representation of who I am in a relationship. It's not and I know this now. In retrospect, it would explain a lot about the way I am projecting myself and how men see me... and why I'm single still! LOL

So I meditated on it and I let myself be open to a new anthem to come into my life. And days later, I heard today's song choice for Music Therapy with Miss Moon at work. I hadn't heard this song in years, and I remembered liking it when it first dropped.

In rediscovering the song and taking in the lyrics, I found myself saying "THIS!!! This is me in a relationship!!". And I think that this song is the perfect new anthem to adopt. So I hope you all will enjoy "Clumsy" by Fergie. If you are single (or even if you are not) do you have a relationship anthem? What's yours?

Can't help it
The girl can't help it
Can't help it
The girl can't help it
Can't help it
The girl can't help it

First time
That I saw your eyes
Boy you looked right through me, mmmhmm
Played it cool
But I knew you knew
That cupid hit me, mmm mmm

You got me tripping, stumbling, flipping, fumbling
Clumsy cause I'm falling in love
You got me slipping, tumbling, sinking, fumbling
Clumsy cause I'm falling in love
So in love with you

Can't help it
The girl can't help it
Can't help it
The girl can't help it
Can't help it
The girl can't help it

Can't breath
When you touch my sleeve
Butterflies so crazy, mmm mmm
Whoa now, think I'm going down
Friends don't know whats with me, mmm mmm

You got me tripping, stumbling, flipping, fumbling
Clumsy cause I'm falling in love
You got me slipping, tumbling, sinking, fumbling
Clumsy cause I'm falling in love
So in love with you

Can't help it
The girl can't help it
Can't help it
The girl can't help it
Can't help it
The girl can't help it

You know, this isn't the first time this has happened to me
This love sick thing
I like serious relationships and a
A girl like me don't stay single for long
Cause everytime a boyfriend and I break up
My world is crushed and I'm all alone
The love bug crawls right back up and bites me and I'm back

Can't help it
The girl can't help it
Can't help it
The girl can't help it
Can't help it
The girl can't help it

You got me tripping, stumbling, flipping, fumbling
Clumsy cause I'm falling in love
You got me slipping, tumbling, sinking, fumbling
Clumsy cause I'm falling in love
So in love with you
So in love with you
So in love with you

DOPE: "Kanamoochi" from "Kandukondain Kandukondain" (2000)

I'm back with another DOPE song from our friends in the Indian film industry. This week's song is the first time I'm featuring a Tamil film, but I saw it this past weekend and knew I had to share!! The lyrics are courtesy of Bollywhat.com.

Kannaa muchi yaenadaa
Why play hide-and-seek

Kannaa muchi yaenadaa yen kannaa
Why play hide-and-seek my dear

Kannaa muchi yaenadaa yen kannaa
Why play hide-and-seek my dear
Naan kannaadi porul poladaa
I am fragile like glass

Kannaa muchi yaenadaa yen kannaa
Why play hide-and-seek my dear
Naan kannaadi porul poladaa
I am fragile like glass

Antha nathiyin karaiyai naan kattaen
I asked the shore of that river
Antha kaatrai niruthiyum kattaen
I stopped the wind and asked it
Antha nathiyin karaiyai naan kattaen
I asked the shore of that river
Antha kaatrai niruthiyum kattaen
I stopped the wind and asked it

Vaanvaeliyai kattaen vidaiyae illai
I asked the stars but they gave no answer

Vaanvaeliyai kattaen vidaiyae illai
I asked the stars but they gave no answer
Iruthiyil oonai kandaen
I saw you in my heart
Iruthiya poovil kandaen
In the flower of my heart
Iruthiyil oonai kandaen
I saw you in my heart
Iruthiya poovil kandaen
In the flower of my heart

Kannaa muchi yaenadaa yen kannaa
Why play hide-and-seek my dear
Naan kannaadi porul poladaa
I am fragile like glass

Yen manam oonakkoru vilaiyaattu bomaiyaa
To you is my heart only a plaything
Yen manam oonakkoru vilaiyaattu bomaiyaa
To you is my heart only a plaything
Yennakkaena oonarchikal thaniyaaka illaiyaa
Do I not have feelings that are just mine alone
Nenjil alai oorangaathu
The heart refuses to be still
Unn ithal koandu vaay mooda vaa yen kannaa
Should I close my mouth with your lips
Oh
Unn ithal koandu vaay mooda vaa yen kannaa
Should I close my mouth with your lips
Unn imai koandu vili moodu vaa
Should I close my eyes with your eyelashes
Unn oodalthaan yen oodaiallavaa
Your body is my clothing
Paarakadilil aadiya pinnum
You have danced in the ocean
Unn vannam maaravillai innum
Without changing colour
Paarakadilil aadiya pinnum
You have danced in the ocean
Unn vannam maaravillai innum
Without changing colour
Yen nenjil koodiyae niram maaravaa
Do you seek to change the colours of my heart
Yen ooyiril nee vanthu saerka
Now that you are united with me
Unn oothadukal eeramaay vaalka
With your wet lips
Kalanthidavaa
Come and join with me

Kannaa muchi yaenadaa yen kannaa
Why play hide-and-seek my dear
Naan kannaadi porul poladaa
I am fragile like glass

Van mazhai vizhumpothu malai kondu karthai
How will you protect me from the rain like you did
Van mazhai vizhumpothu malai kondu karthai
How will you protect me from the rain like you did
Kan mazhai vizhumpothu yethil yennai kaappai
By holding up the mountain, but how will you save me from the tears
Poovil kanneerai rasippai
You will compare the tears to flowers
Nan yena penn illaiya yen kanna
My dear Krishna tell me am I not a woman
Adhai nee kaanakan illaiya yen kanna
Don't you have eyes with which to see
Unn kanavukalil nan illaiya
Do you never dream of me
Thinam oosal adudhen manasu
My heart is restless
Ada oomai alle yen kolusu
My anklets will never fall silent
Yen ull moochile uyir veenguthe
My spirit suffers
Yen uyir thudikkamale
Only your touch can rescue me
Kappathu unn thindale uyir tharava
Come give me life

Kannaa muchi yaenadaa yen kannaa
Why play hide-and-seek my dear
Naan kannaadi porul poladaa
I am fragile like glass
Kannaadi porul poladaa
Fragile as glass

Music Therapy with Miss Moon

Find the love you seek, by first finding the love within yourself. Learn to rest in that place within you that is your true home.
~ Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

" You protect your being when you love yourself better. That's the secret. "
~ Isabelle Adjani

" You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection."
~ Buddha

I used to be the kind of girl who HATED Valentine's Day when I was single. Back then, the day served as a  reminder of how painfully alone (I thought) I was... But as I got older, I realized that it could be a great opportunity to lavish myself with love, and what could be better than giving and getting love?

When you are your own personal Valentine... you know you'll be getting exactly what you want with no strings attached. And you know that the gift will be appreciated and valued with no regret or disappointment. For this year, some friends and I will be going to dinner and a movie. We've decided to make ourselves and each other our Valentines!

So this week's song choice for Music Therapy with Miss Moon is a very special Valentine's Day shout out to all of us. Dedicate this song to yourself and sing along if you know you are loved!!! I hope you all will enjoy "Video" by India.Arie.

Sometimes I shave my legs and sometimes I don't
Sometimes I comb my hair and sometimes I won't
Depend on how the wind blows I might even paint my toes
It really just depends on whatever feels good in my soul

I'm not the average girl from your video
and I ain't built like a supermodel
But, I learned to love myself unconditionally
Because I am a queen
I'm not the average girl from your video
My worth is not determined by the price of my clothes
No matter what I'm wearing I will always be the india arie

When I look in the mirror and the only one there is me
Every freckle on my face is where it's supposed to be
And I know our creator didn't make no mistakes on me
My feet, my thighs, my lips, my eyes; I'm lovin' what I see

I'm not the average girl from your video
and I ain't built like a supermodel
But, I learned to love myself unconditionally
Because I am a queen
I'm not the average girl from your video
My worth is not determined by the price of my clothes
No matter what I'm wearing I will always be the
india arie

Am I less of a lady if I don't wear pantyhose?
My mama said a lady ain't what she wears but, what she knows
But, I've drawn a conclusion, it's all an illusion, confusion's the name of the
game
A misconception, a vast deception
Something's gotta change
but,Don't be offended this is all my opinion
ain't nothing that I'm sayin law
This is a true confession of a life learned lesson I was sent here to share with
y'all
So get in where you fit in go on and shine
Clear your mind, now's the time
Put your salt on the shelf
Go on and love yourself
'Cuz everything's gonna be all right

I'm not the average girl from your video
and I ain't built like a supermodel
But, I Learned to love myself unconditionally
Because I am a queen
I'm not the average girl from your video
My worth is not determined by the price of my clothes
No matter what I'm wearing I will always be the india arie

Keep your fancy drinks and your expensive minks
I don't need that to have a good time
Keep your expensive car and your caviar
All I need is my guitar
Keep your Kristal and your pistol
I'd rather have a pretty piece of crystal
Don't need your silicone I prefer my own
What God gave me is just fine

I'm not the average girl from your video
and I ain't built like a supermodel
But, I learned to love myself unconditionally
Because I am a queen
I'm not the average girl from your video
My worth is not determined by the price of my clothes
No matter what I'm wearing I will always be india arie

DOPE: "Halkat Jawani" from "Heroine" (2012)

I'm back with another groovy tune from our friends in India. I saw "Heroine" this past week and thought it was kick ass, as I talk about in my tumblr blog. This song was so killer, I knew instantly I had to post it this week. With the lyrics with English translation courtesy of BollyMeaning.com, I hope you all will enjoy "Halkat Jawani".

Aaja..
Come
Aaja zara sarak le
Come move a bit,
Gir le zara behak le
fall a bit, get tipsy,
Saiyaan zara chhalak le
O dear, spill a little,
Aa ke mose lipat le
come, cling on to me,
Tedha zeher hai ye isse na kar chhedkhani
This is a tricky poison, don't play around with it,

Night ki naughty kahani
the naughty story of the night,
Ye Halkat Jawani
this careless youth..
Meetha ye namkeen paani
This salt water is sweet,
Ye Halkat Jawani
this careless youth..
Night ki naughty kahaani
the naughty story of the night,
Ye Halkat Jawani
this careless youth..

Joban hai pyaasa to jor kare
This youth is thirsty, and hence loud,
Ainvai ye din mein bhi shor kare
It makes noises in the day even..
Takiya bana lipat le
Make my body a pillow and hug it,
Kambal bana rapat le
make it a blanket and glide over it..
Tan hai kateela par iski ada hai shaitani
The body is jagged, but it's style is naughty..

Night ki naughty kahani
the naughty story of the night,
Ye Halkat Jawani
this careless youth..
Meetha ye namkeen paani
This salt water is sweet,
Ye Halkat Jawani
this careless youth..
Night ki naughty kahaani
the naughty story of the night,
Ye Halkat Jawani
this careless youth..

Chhoron ki neeyat halaal kare
It kills the boys' (good) intentions
Are basti mein daily bawaal kare
it creates brawls in the vicinity everyday..
Item bana ke rakh le haye..
Make me your lover
Chakhna bana ke chakh le
make me chakhna and taste me
Aankhon ko kyon seke
why do you just see with your eyes,
Hathon se kar manmaani..
do what you want with your hands..

Night ki naughty kahani
the naughty story of the night,
Ye Halkat Jawani
this careless youth..
Meetha ye namkeen paani
This salt water is sweet,
Ye Halkat Jawani
this careless youth..
Night ki naughty kahaani
the naughty story of the night,
Ye Halkat Jawani
this careless youth..

Wanna Wanna Wednesdays.... Krobo Quote Bracelets by QuellyRue Designs

This week's Wanna Wanna Wednesday item combines two of my favorite things: Adorning the wrists (those who know me know I'm always with bracelets that jingle jingle when I move) and Inspiring the spirit!

The gorgeous bracelets ($16.00 each, QuellyRue Designs on Etsy) are crafted with Krobo beads and have various inspirational quotes such as, "The journey awakens the soul", "Possibility begins with imagination", "Live in the moment", "Reality has limits, imagination is boundless" and "Dream as if you'll live forever".

I plan on getting each of the aforementioned quotes, because they are truths I need to be reminded of periodically. And if I can look fabulous while being reminded, even better!!!!!!

Music Therapy with Miss Moon

" For every good reason there is to lie, there is a better reason to tell the truth."
~ Bo Bennett

" By a lie, a man... annihilates his dignity as a man."
~ Immanuel Kant

A half-truth is a whole lie.
~ Yiddish Proverb

Recently I encountered something that put me in a place of panic and fear. Without getting into too much detail (Because I'm really trying to now dwell and to move beyond it), a customer told a lie about me at work and about our interaction over the telephone.

Now I've worked in Customer Support for almost 20 years now and I know with some certainty that there are are people out there that feel exaggeration and intimidation are great techniques to get what you want from a company. Knowing this intellectually, I still was quite upset and shaken by the experience, because I went through a similar situation before.

In that instance, my superiors did not believe me and I was reprimanded quite unfairly, I think. Still do, as a matter of fact. I could have argued and insisted my innocence, but I felt so weak and powerless that I gave up. It's frustrating to have your integrity and your professionalism doubted and called into question when you did everything within your power to ensure a positive outcome.

The blessing in what happened recently is that I was believed! Wholeheartedly! And I didn't feel like there was some silent notation being made on my record. I felt secure that I am in a good place professionally, and that my superiors have my back and recognize my efforts. That's an extraordinary feeling!

I am filled with a sense of gratitude that the people surrounding me in the workplace... see me. They see my humanity, they see my frailty, they see my excellence, and they see who I am and what I do everyday for the company I am so blessed to work for.

Lies have no power over you unless you give it power. Gratitude is the ultimate kryptonite for falsehood, and today's song choice for Music Therapy with Miss Moon serves as a reminder to life your life a different way... the grateful way! I hope you all will enjoy "Lies" by En Vogue.

I'll live my life a different way
Refuse to let myself be called a victim

Lies, lies, using lies as alibis
Lie's, lies, just a devil in disguise

It's the same game
Played in so many ways
Everyone is the victim too
It's just a waste of time
Made for simple minds
So why do people insist on lies

I'll give my life a different way
Refuse to let myself become a victim
Getting caught you in a vicious web of lies

Lies, lies, using lies as alibis
Lie's, lies, just a devil in disguise

The nation's leaders as well as teachers
Practice lies as a way of life, yes they do
So think before you speak
Cause what you sow you reap
The truth will always come to light

Will we ever learn one day
That telling lies always bring to matters
Misery and sometimes pain

I'll live my life a different way
Refuse to let myself be called a victim
Lies, lies, using lies as alibis
Lie's, lies, just a devil in disguise
Lies, lies, using lies as alibis
Lie's, lies, just a devil in disguise
Lies, lies, using lies as alibis
Lie's, lies, just a devil in disguise

Lies and deceit
Yes it's running real rampant
Communities suffering, yo I can't stand it
When we think of lies we tend to think of politicians
But what about the husband who's on a mission
Lying to his wife so he can get it on and get some
Coming back home with a dumb expression
Written on a face that he's guilty as a criminal
It's time to change your attitude
People do you hear me, don't listen
To a funky rhyme that's kickin' knowledge that we need
We lie about our hair
And we know we got a weave
Politicians lie about the things they're gonna do
And everybody's tale affects me and you
A smoker lies about the money that he stole
And a dope dealer never tells you how he got his gold
I guess what Debbie T. is really trying to say
When you break it all down we're all the same

I'll live my life a different way
Refuse to let myself be called a victim
Caught up in a vicious web of lies

A Little [JILL SCOTT] for a Saturday Night

It's another Saturday night and I'm at "E" of my ABCs of Good Music, so I thought I'd pick some Grown Folks Music courtesy of Jill Scott. I hope you all will enjoy "Epiphany"!!
